Revolutionizing Reporting: Automated Database Reports at First Source International
Pioneering Automation in 1998: In the tech landscape of 1998, I took on a groundbreaking project at First Source International and its sister company, Paragon Memory. The challenge was clear: revolutionize the cumbersome and time-consuming process of generating and distributing database reports within the MIS department.
Streamlining Archaic Processes: The existing workflow involved generating database reports on an old DOS system, manual formatting in Excel, creating multiple versions of each price list, and distributing them across the organization. This labor-intensive process consumed nearly a full day of work, occurring at least once a month, sometimes weekly.
Innovative Scripting Solution: Undeterred by the complexity of the task, I leveraged my skills and devised a solution using three different scripting languages. The result was an automated system that transformed the entire reporting process. Instead of a day-long endeavor, the reports were generated, formatted, and distributed before anyone even arrived at work on the designated day.
Real-Time Status Updates: To ensure the reliability of the automated system, I implemented a mechanism that sent real-time status updates via email. This not only provided assurance that the process was completed successfully but also offered an additional layer of transparency to the MIS department.
